Implementing a Fecal Microbiota Transplantation Program
By Cara Iacobellis, PharmD; Shelby Gaudet, PharmD, BCPS; and Rudy J. Seelmann, PharmD, BCPS
Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is responsible for a broad range of gastrointestinal illnesses. Though current guidelines recommend antibiotics as first-line therapy, approximately 20% of patients will have CDI recurrence after antibiotic treatment. Because recurrent CDI is difficult to treat, it is not surprising that alternative treatments are under investigation. Fecal microbiota transplantation—a treatment that has been shown to be over 90% effective for treating CDI in patients who had previously failed to recover with antibiotic therapy—is gaining momentum as a treatment for CDI. Implementing CPOE in Radiology
By Ryan W. Naseman, PharmD, MS
Computerized prescriber order entry (CPOE) usage is certainly widespread in hospitals across the country, but it is not always universally employed throughout the hospital. Specialty areas, such as radiology and the ER, often lag behind medical/surgical areas in the adoption of CPOE given these departments' non-standard use of medication and unique workflows. To read about how The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center expanded CPOE into the radiology department—including ensuring a smooth workflow, establishing a distribution model, and building orders—CLICK HERE.
