NICU Wristbands
Endur ID’s NICU Identification Kit includes 100 sheets of blank wristbands in three infant sizes, a supply of foam backing materials, and instructions for use. Manufactured from a soft material for infant comfort, the wristbands can withstand showers, alcohol wipes, and other agents. The optional foam backing is gentle on the skin and can accommodate patient weight gain or loss. All Endur ID wristbands can accommodate bar codes, as well as patient photographs.

Cleanroom Wipers
ITW Texwipe introduces the TexTra line of single-ply cleanroom polyester knit wipers with a liquid-holding capacity of two-ply wipers. TexTra wipers are available in 9 x 9- and 12 x 12-inch sizes with sealed borders or standard edges. They are also available in sterile and pre-wetted options. TexTra wipers can be used in applying and removing cleaning or disinfecting solutions and for rigorous or general-purpose wiping and spill control.

Bar Coding Software
Available from Health Care Logistics, WaspLabeler db Tracker Software allows users to design and print text and bar code labels in a variety of styles and colors to enhance medication identification. It includes predefined templates for hundreds of label types and a NDC database for populating label fields and eliminating potentially harmful keystroke errors. A log in security option grants security roles to specific functions, a daily backup feature provides automatic data protection and retrieval, and an electronic log captures print history information.

Anticoagulant Management Software
Standing Stone announces CoagClinic, a software application designed to help health care facilities meet the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goal 3E for anticoagulation therapy management. The software combines point-of-service testing with computerized decision support, providing Web-based, customizable therapy management and documentation. Key benefits include patient-specific support for warfarin and low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) dosing, adverse event and quality reporting, and reduced potential for drug-drug interactions. Installing CoagClinic’s HL7 interface to existing hospital systems enables automatic dietary services notification of a new warfarin patient to aid in nutritional counseling and other information exchanges.

Braun's mbulatory Infusion Pumps Curlin 6000 CMS pump can connect with both PCs and PDAs; offers clinical management software and a large, color screen; and is capable of delivering IV therapy using syringes, bottles, or bags. In addition to PCA and epidural modes, the pump also delivers TPN with ramp/taper, continuous, and intermittent infusions. Safety features include integral free-flow protection from upstream occlusion detection and programmable medication limits. The verification and confirmation of dose changes before implementation can reduce the risk of programming errors and improve infusion outcomes. The system also allows caregivers to retrieve detailed reports on infusion events.

New Carts
InnerSpace has added six carts to its Harmony line, including pediatric emergency, suture, and line carts, as well as larger versions of their crash, anesthesia, and isolation carts. The “Build A Cart” option offers eight drawer colors – white, red, blue, yellow, green, lavender, light blue, and teal – and 3-, 6-, and 9-inch drawers or trays and baskets. A locking drawer can be used for medications and syringes. New accessories include a tape dispenser, suture shelf, work surface cover, and side storage bins. Two new 3-inch tray divider sets are available, and locks can be added to any drawer. Harmony carts are equipped with 5-inch full-swivel plate casters and directional tracking casters for improved maneuverability.

Inventory Management Technology
McKesson announces Connect-Rx 6.8, available in new systems and as an upgrade to existing MedCarousel units. The software includes a Dynamic Inventory Optimization function, which calculates par and max levels by applying user-defined parameters and historical usage statistics. An optional Ultra Mobile PC wireless device enables technicians to perform remote cycle counts and satellite replenishment without returning to the MedCarousel workstation. The Cabinet Refill Refresh function allows pharmacists to poll AcuDose-Rx cabinets and direct technicians to refill a particular cabinet at opportune times.

Manufactured with 1-inch metal tubing and sturdy casters, EPS Utility Chart Cart Racks are available in a variety of sizes and capacities. Pharmacy Revenue Cycle Management Software
Craneware announces Pharmacy ChargeLink, software that connects a hospital’s pharmaceutical purchase history and its charge description master (CDM) to optimize reimbursement for facility-administered medications. Pharmacy ChargeLink can strengthen pharmacy billing policies and procedures through the increased monitoring of internal pricing guidelines, and identify items out of alignment with hospital pricing strategies. Linked to the Thomson Red Book database, the software enables users to perform alternative-drug searches, benchmark against average wholesale prices, and generate spend analyses and statistical summaries. Staff can configure the software’s data views and generate text-based, HTML, or Excel reports. The system also helps staff review descriptions of method of administration, dosage, and billing units, for setting correct multipliers to achieve full reimbursement.

Locking Systems
Hafele’s Dialock copy- and tamper-proof locking systems deliver radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and electronic locking in stand-alone, programmed, or fully networked solutions, including SAFE-O-MAT and SAFE-O-PIN locker and cabinet locks. Dialock’s small transponder keys offer security and flexible programming based on wireless data transfer. System administrators can specify access control for each installation.

BCMA Solution
Omnicell introduces SafetyMed, a bar coded medication administration (BCMA) solution that integrates with a mobile cart and is accessed through a secure Web browser via a hospital’s existing wireless network. Omnicell’s mobile cart features multiple drawer configurations with access controlled to each individual patient drawer. A care provider scans the patient’s wristband at the bedside to review an electronic medication profile while the patient-specific medication drawer on the mobile cart is automatically unlocked. Additional features include automated dose response checks; flagging of overdue medications; and documentation of all warnings and overrides in an electronic medication administration record (EMAR).

Digital Pharmacy Scale
The Tanita 1579D Digital Mini Scale is a lightweight, precision digital scale, offering both lithium battery and AC adapter power options. A five-digit reverse blue backlit display improves visibility. In addition, the 1579D comes with a two-year guarantee and a hard carrying case.
The scale has a 200-gram weight capacity, accuracy within .01 g, and six weighing modes. The scale measures 5.9 x 2.6 x 0.7 inches and weighs 4.74 ounces.
