All-in-One Printer, Scanner, and Fax Machine    
Lexmark introduces the Energy Star-certified Lexmark X560n color laser multifunction product (MFP). The Lexmark X560n prints up to 31 black and white pages and 20 color pages per minute, and also offers fax and scan capabilities. The device’s 50-sheet automated feeder can allow users to efficiently fax, scan, or copy multiple-page documents. The Lexmark X560n also includes software to help customers scan, share, and organize documents. The software converts scanned documents to PDFs or can transfer a document’s contents into a spreadsheet or word processing file using optical character recognition. Customers can also scan documents directly into PC applications.

Cleanroom Pass-Throughs
Terra Universal’s BioSafe pass-throughs incorporate coved corners and smooth stainless steel surfaces to simplify cleaning and sterilization. No-lip edges eliminate clearance obstructions for material transfers. Interchangeable doors, available with tempered glass viewing windows, feature Terra BioSeals and can be removed and steam sterilized. Ventilation modules and antimicrobial coatings are also available.

Carmel Pharma introduces the PhaSeal Injector Luer Lock (N35) with ErgoMotion to provide safe and easy access connections during the preparation and administration of hazardous drugs. Medication Reconciliation Software    
Design Clinicals releases version 2.0 of their MedsTracker software, which, as a standalone or integrated application, enables hospitals to become compliant with The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals for medication reconciliation. The updated Web-based application includes enhancements for faster discharge reconciliation, as well as a variety of new functions, such as the ability to combine home and inpatient medication lists, display both brand and generic drug names side by side, and query data from other clinical systems. MedsTracker also supports allergy integration, provides user cues that highlight incomplete medications and safety issues, and interfaces with Pyxis Connect for physician order management.

Tabletop Unit Dose Packaging Machine
MPI introduces the Double-Strip Auto-Print packaging system for oral solids. The device produces 120 unit dose packages per minute and is powered by MPI’s WinPak software. Pharmacists can select from multiple bar code symbologies and label customization features to meet their facilities’ packaging requirements. All MPI unit dose packaging materials meet USP guidelines for light resistance and moisture permeation.

Tamper-Evident Envelopes   
EPS introduces printed and blank 9x12-inch TamperAlerT envelopes, designed to provide tamper-evidence for patient property, confidential reports, specimens, medical records, and more. The envelopes contain a strong closure adhesive and, once sealed, can only be opened by cutting them. Constructed from a triple-layer extruded film, TampAlerT envelopes will show distortion with any attempt to open them. The printed envelopes have a detachable, serial-numbered receipt stub to allow users to match senders, recipients, and contents. TampAlerT envelopes are available in packs of 100 envelopes with quantity pricing on as few as five packs.

Document Imaging Technology
Honeywell introduces the 4800dr Document Reader, designed to digitize hard copy documents for paperless processing, storage, and retrieval. The 4800dr can image documents, such as prescriptions and insurance cards, as they enter pharmacy workflow. The device includes an imager, stand, and tray and can capture images of documents up to 8.5x11 inches in size. The 4800dr includes a three-year warranty.

Compounding Aseptic Isolator
IsoTech launches the updated MicroSphere positive-pressure compounding aseptic isolator (CAI). The ISO Class 4 CAI offers unidirectional airflow in both the working chamber and the antechamber. New features include a slanted front panel for ease of operation and better visibility and a storage drawer under the antechamber. The MicroSphere is available in sizes ranging from 4 to 12 feet.

UV-Inhibitive Bags
Designed for the protection and transfer of medication, EPS’s re-sealable and Nultraviolet UV-inhibitive bags range in size from 2x2 to 13x15 inches. The bags are available with a variety of color imprints, such as “freeze,” “IV,” “STAT,” “refrigerate,” “return to pharmacy,” and “PRN,” or with a white writing block for custom messages. Unit Dose Repackaging Services
Regional Service Center (RSC), a unit dose repackaging service provider, can now repackage bulk polyethylene glycol (PEG) 3350 into individually labeled and bar coded 17-gram unit doses. Pharmacies can send PEG 3350 directly to RSC or have their wholesalers ship the bulk powder to RSC’s repackaging center. RSC then sends the packaged unit doses to the hospital.

Siemens announces INVISION 27, the newest version of their health information system, offering platform, database, and application upgrades to assist health care organizations in streamlining information across clinical, financial, and administrative functions. INVISION 27 includes a new drug allergy module from First DataBank, which can be interfaced with Siemens Pharmacy and Soarian Clinicals.

Automated Drug Storage and Retrieval System
The BoxPicker by Swisslog is a high-density, automated pharmacy storage and retrieval system that can provide secure and controlled medication access in the pharmacy. The BoxPicker’s loading area limits access to one bin at a time and can prevent technicians from placing bins in the wrong location. The device’s software tracks inventory levels and access, and can interface with hospital information systems. The BoxPicker now offers a refrigerated option to increase the security and automate the storage and dispensing of refrigerated medications.

Color-Coded Wristband Labels
Endur ID’s color-coded labels can be affixed to patient wristbands to alert caregivers to a patient’s allergies, fall risk level, DNR status, and restricted extremities. Labels have been developed to meet a variety of states’ color-coding standards and custom label sheets can also be developed to meet an individual facility’s needs.

Automated Tablet and Capsule Counter
Using advanced machine vision technology, Eyecon can count tablets and capsules in 200 milliseconds with 99.9% accuracy. The counter’s open-flow design enables pharmacy staff to see the medication at all times, even as it is dispensed into a vial. There is no limitation on how fast medication can be poured from the stock bottle, and Eyecon immediately displays an exact overage count. No disassembly is required to clean the device, and separate penicillin- and sulfa- specific platters prevent cross contamination. Eyecon is fully integrated with Innovation’s PharmASSIST Symphony systems and can also be used as a standalone counting device. The system’s on-board memory stores medication information, allowing pharmacists to use the counter as soon as it is plugged in.

Panasonic has upgraded its Toughbook 19 rugged convertible tablet computer to include a Core 2 Duo processor and expanded memory capabilities. The shock-mounted, 5.1-pound computer also offers an optional integrated camera for documentation, seven hours of battery life, a back-lit keyboard, and an anti-glare, anti-reflective sunlight viewable display. The Toughbook 19 is WiFi 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth, and mobile broadband-ready.
