Computerized Prescriber Order Entry (CPOE) is the technology to watch this year. While 28% of hospitals report having CPOE systems in place, just 59% of these hospitals are sending most of their medication orders via CPOE, suggesting that 41% of CPOE users have not yet fully implemented their systems. The satisfaction rates for CPOE reflect a technology in the relatively early stages of adoption. 88% of users report satisfaction with their systems, but few confer ratings of "excellent," suggesting further room for improvement. Click here to download detailed graphs on CPOE adoption. We expect this improvement will come as an overwhelming majority (83%) of those without CPOE plan to implement such a system in the near future. Acknowledging the effort required to implement CPOE, the majority of hospitals are predicting that their implementation will take a few years. For more information on CPOE vendors, click here .
