Adhesive Tab Closure
Zebra’s Z-Band Direct patient-identification wristbands now feature an adhesive tab closure. Available in infant, pediatric, and adult sizes, the wristbands feature a topcoat that resists alcohol, water, foams, soaps, and blood. A patent-pending, antimicrobial coating protects wristbands against S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, and E. coli. The wristbands also offer six color-coding options to communicate patient risk factors or special needs, while protecting patient privacy.
Wireless Temperature Monitoring System
Accsense’s Web-based wireless monitoring system tracks temperatures, CO2 levels, humidity, and other measurements in refrigerators, freezers, incubators, and other medication storage areas. Alarm notifications can be sent via e-mail, phone, or pager if problems arise. Reports can be printed to demonstrate that products are under consistent control. Accsense sensor pods are compatible with a range of standard external plug-in sensors and probes.4
Bar Code Verifier
Label Vision Systems announces INTEGRA 9505 Flat Bed Verifier for the verification of both linear and two-dimensional bar codes. The read head attaches to the user’s computer and indicates problem areas as part of the bar code-grading analytical process. The verifier can grade several bar and matrix codes at one time. Free software upgrades can extend the life of the system.
Remote Order Entry Services
Envision Telepharmacy offers remote order entry services after and/or during regular pharmacy hours. Envision pharmacists can access your hospital’s pharmacy computer system and other electronic data to complete order entry, and after order entry, the medication is accessible in an automated medication supply system dispensed from the pharmacy or otherwise obtained according to after-hours procedures.
Electronic Temperature Indicator
Cold Chain Technologies’ KoolWatch electronic indicator monitors two low and two high preprogrammed threshold temperatures between -20°C and 60°C, and will indicate time and duration of a temperature breach. For refrigerated applications, the KoolWatch is accurate within ±0.5°C. The KoolWatch weighs 0.5 ounce and programmed temperature, time, and sampling interval settings are viewable on the device’s LCD screen. The screen also displays “OK” or “Not OK” icons to indicate whether temperatures are in or out of range.
Glucose Management Software
MD Scientific’s EndoTool software system calculates the dose of IV insulin needed to quickly control blood glucose levels in critical care settings. This proprietary, FDA-cleared software also actively models and adapts to individual patient responses to IV insulin — even those with fluctuating insulin requirements. EndoTool integrates over 30 algorithms, and its control mathematics can ensure low incidences of hypoglycemia.
The software can decrease the workload associated with implementing tight glycemic controls throughout your facility.
Mobile Utility Workstation
EPS announces its Next Generation Mobile Utility Workstation, a polymer cart that doubles as a storage unit. Quiet wheel casters let you roll the carts, and the wheels can be locked to hold the cart stationary. An 18-by-28-inch work surface slides in both directions to reveal a interior tray measuring 18 by 26 inches. Assembled in minutes, the cart weighs 37 pounds and can hold over four times its weight. Four different EPS bins, with locking hasps for padlocks (if necessary), can fit into the lid’s grooves.
Environmental Monitoring Systems
Rees Scientific’s Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) offer automated, centralized data collection of environmental conditions via wireless and hardwired sensors located in medication storage areas, refrigerators, freezers, cleanrooms, and so on. The recently launched CentronSQL EMS runs on a SQL or Oracle platform and offers customized reporting with Crystal Reports as well as sonic, relay, and text messaging and e-mail notification of out-of-range conditions; and pre-alarm alerts to provide early warnings.
Medication Reconciliation Solution
RelayHealth announces IntegrateRx, an electronic medication reconciliation solution that provides health care organizations with a record of a patient’s medications based on information extracted from insurance claims and/or prescription records. The solution is made possible through the participation of leading national pharmacies, pharmacy system vendors, hospital medication reconciliation vendors, and RelayHealth’s intelligent pharmacy claims processing network. IntegrateRx allows for delivery of patient data through the hospital’s current electronic health record software application, in order to replace manual processes during patient interviews, and offers drug interaction screening capabilities.
