Implementing a Strategy for Drug Cost Management
By Indrani Kar, PharmD; Shawn M. Osbourne, PharmD, MBA; and Jason E. Glowczewski, PharmD, MGA, FASHP

Centralization of formulary policy management can accelerate the benefits of cost-saving initiatives, such as therapeutic interchanges, restrictions, and enhanced contracting opportunities. Generics and Biosimilars Supplement

Pharmacy Purchasing & Products recently polled a random, nationwide sampling of health-system pharmacy directors on the factors that impact their generic purchasing decisions. We asked about budgeting, the impact of pricing changes, supply reliability, adding biosimilars to the formulary, and future spending projections, among other topics. The results of this survey demonstrate a slow but continual improvement in the availability of generics in bar coded unit dose. CLICK HERE to read the full results of this survey.
