PP&P updated the definitions of distribution models in this year's survey to better reflect current pharmacy practices. While the centralized and hybrid definitions remain the same as last year, the point-of-care and decentralized/satellite definitions replace last year's broad decentralized category. With these more precise definitions, the distribution trends are quite clear-the move away from traditional centralization in the pharmacy continues with facilities of all sizes embracing the point-of-care model. The growth of the point-of-care model will continue over the next five years, supported primarily by smaller hospitals. Larger hospitals moving away from centralized services will be more likely to implement a hybrid distribution model.
