Engineering Controls

April 2014 : State of Pharmacy Compounding - Vol.11 No. 4 - Page #34

Given their widespread adoption, it is no surprise that pharmacy directors have high regard for their engineering controls. 90% of LAFW users rate their equipment as good or excellent. Likewise, 79% of isolator users give their CAIs/CACIs strong ratings. With two-thirds of all hospitals conducting at least some hazardous compounding, appropriate use of engineering controls is particularly important. Nonetheless, one-third of hospitals preparing HDs have yet to ensure this preparation occurs in a chemo hood within a negative pressure cleanroom that vents to the outside.
