Environmental Monitoring

June 2014 - Vol.11 No. 6 - Page #18
Category: Environmental Monitoring Equipment

PP&P’s State of Pharmacy Compounding (published in April) demonstrates the continuing challenge of establishing effective environmental monitoring within pharmacy’s compounding complex. Notably, pharmacy continues to be the primary provider of environmental monitoring and many facilities recognize the need to test their media with a positive control. Of concern, almost one-third of these positive media tests showed no growth.

Without confidence in environmental monitoring results, it is impossible for pharmacy to establish the sterility of the compounding environment. As such, it is imperative that pharmacy employ top-quality equipment and media in conducting this monitoring.
