Given the direct line between poor practice technique and contamination in the cleanroom, the importance of compliant cleaning practices cannot be overstated. Drawing on data from PP&P’s State of Pharmacy Compounding (, it is reassuring that those states whose boards of pharmacy require <797> compliance see beneficial results in terms of higher rates of adherence to daily cleaning by dedicated personnel who document their practices.

Nevertheless, further improvements are needed. Pharmacies should consider restricting cleaning duties to staff members who recognize the value and importance of the task, rather than assigning non-pharmacy employees. Fortunately a plethora of excellent cleaning products exist to assist in this endeavor.
