The value of outsourced compounding is evident in the number of facilities that take advantage of this service, reflecting diminishing concerns about stability and safety. At the same time, pharmacy is more involved in vendor oversight, be it by conducting site visits, reviewing contracts, or examining vendor responses to FDA Form 483s. As pharmacy’s scrutiny of vendors has increased, they are less likely to rate their vendor as excellent. Nonetheless, the vast majority is satisfied with their vendors, which is underscored by the fact that most facilities plan to either maintain or increase their current outsourced compounding volume.
