Just 11% of hospital pharmacies engaged in gray market purchasing over the past year. The decreasing number of drug shortages has certainly relieved some of the procurement pressure on pharmacy departments; nevertheless, most facilities recognize the inherent danger to safe medication distribution from procuring drugs at any cost from any source. An increasing number of facilities are adopting gray market purchasing bans as official facility policy.
