Pharmacy renovations typically cover both the cleanroom complex and the pharmacy itself and are completed for less than $500,000; facilities with fewer than 200 beds usually complete their pharmacy renovations for less than $250,000. While the pace of pharmacy renovations has slowed of late, we expect this trend to reverse shortly. The combination of an increasing number of aging facilities and the new requirements from USP mean renovations are increasingly necessary. Given the increasing difficulty in getting budget approval for renovations, pharmacy must be well armed with persuasive data when making capital budget requests.
