Closed System Drug-Transfer Device

Baxter’s Arisure closed system drug-transfer device (CSTD) is designed to offer ease of use and reduce exposure from hazardous drugs. Only three components are required to prepare and administer a hazardous drug dose: a closed vial adapter to contain hazardous vapor, a dry bag spike to safely remove and add diluent or drug to IV bags, and a closed male Luer to help prevent any leakage or droplets of fluid during preparation and administration.

CSTD Receives FDA Clearance

The Diana ChemoLock Transfer Set from ICU Medical has received US FDA 510K clearance. Designed for use with the Diana Compounding Workflow System, the ChemoLock Transfer Set is a sterile, single-use closed system drug-transfer device (CSTD) used to transfer drugs from a vial to an IV bag for intravenous drug administration.

As a CSTD with FDA ONB classification, the Diana ChemoLock Transfer Set can be used for hazardous drug preparation to prohibit the transfer of environmental contaminants into the system and the escape of drug or vapor concentrations outside the system.

The set’s needle-free access site mechanically prohibits the transfer of environmental contaminants into the system after access, and ensures no escape of drug from the closed system.

Medication Replenishment System

Stat Stock, the automated medication replenishment process from Health Care Logistics, is a fast, user-friendly way for pharmacies to check the status of medication and supplies to ensure greater accuracy and improve patient safety. The system uses RFID tags to manage the drug and supply inventory, allowing users to instantly identify and locate expired or recalled medication anywhere in the facility, and then replenish or remove accordingly. Automated reports make it easy to monitor and manage inventory and track trends, improving safety.

Luer Lock Connectors

IMI announces the addition of Guarded Luer Connectors to the Prep-Fill family of products. Used to join two Luer lock syringes or other Luer lock devices to facilitate the transfer of fluids, they are offered in both female-to-female Luer lock and female-to-male Luer lock configurations. Common uses include the transfer (or mixing) of fluids between syringes, tube sets, bag ports, and other containers. The large finger grips provide secure manipulation and help protect against touch contamination. Connector-specific coloring allows for quick identification, and each product is individually packaged to enhance aseptic technique. The Guarded Luer Connectors can also be used with repeater pumps to make one-handed batch filling easy.

Autonomous Service Robot

Swisslog Healthcare, in partnership with Savioke, offer Relay robot, an autonomous service robot (ASR) for use in health care settings. While medication and specimen payloads are typically moved manually to target locations, such as patient care areas and laboratory, trips between these areas can quickly add up, requiring a significant time commitment from clinical and pharmacy staff. Relay robot has an immediate impact on hospital staff workflow by making material transport more efficient, reliable, and secure. The robot features a locking payload and human-centered design. At 90 pounds and 36 inches tall, Relay robot moves nimbly around doors, through crowded halls, and onto elevators.

Sterile Ophthalmic Dispensing Containers

Ophthalmic compounding and dispensing can be an expensive and highly technical task, as sterility and medication integrity must be vigilantly maintained. To help practitioners control costs when preparing sterile solutions in adherence with USP <797> and other current guidelines, even when packaging larger runs, EPS has released a new ten-pack configuration for all four sizes of its Steri-Dropper sterile ophthalmic dispensing containers.

This new ten-pack features an ergonomically designed tray with each of the components (bottles, tips, and caps) separated for convenience. All four sizes of Steri-Dropper bottle, in both the original two-pack or new ten-pack design, are manufactured from a special zinc stearate-free resin minimizing the risk of particulate forming in solutions with certain ophthalmic preparations.
