Refrigeration Purchasing Plans

January 2021 - Vol.18 No. 1 - Page #20

To meet COVID-19 vaccine storage needs and to update aging equipment, refrigeration purchasing is projected to remain brisk over the near term. While pharmacy has long relied on the superior value of medical-grade refrigeration to maintain medication integrity, it is heartening to see this commitment to high quality refrigeration expand to medication storage on the units.

Pharmacy is looking to upgrade and expand their refrigeration storage; 37% of all hospital pharmacies plan to purchase additional refrigerator and freezer units over the next 3 years. In addition, more than 4 out of every 10 hospitals plan to purchase additional medical-grade refrigerators over the next 3 years for their nursing units.

Among those facilities planning to purchase new refrigeration units, Helmer, Follett, and Thermo Fisher are the leading vendors under consideration.
