Codonics and BD announce an agreement for the joint design and development of technology aimed to improve medication safety in the perioperative area. Through this collaboration, the companies intend to intercept medication errors and streamline documentation for IV bolus injections by utilizing the technology of BD’s Intelliport and Codonics’ Safe Label System. The BD Intelliport System provides real-time dose measurement and clinical alerts at the point of injection while wirelessly sending captured information directly into the patient’s EMR following medication administration. The Codonics Safe Label System helps ensure safe medication management by providing visual and audible confirmation of the drug during medication preparation and administration, including a Joint Commission-compliant medication label.

By integrating the two technologies, the goal is to identify medication and concentration at the time of administration, helping reduce medication errors and automate medication administration recordkeeping. Both products have received FDA clearance.
