The OnGuard closed system transfer device (CSTD), manufactured by TEVA and distributed by B. Braun Medical, now offers a locking syringe adaptor for IV push and IV infusion from a bag. OnGuard is designed to help prevent accidental exposure to hazardous drugs during compounding and delivery. OnGuard utilizes air-cleaning technology, a NIOSH-recognized containment technology, and has been tested for vapor containment using chemotherapy drugs. In 2019, USP <800> will mandate CSTD use for hazardous drug administration, which makes CSTDs an important consideration for USP <800> compliance planning.
