B·R·A·H·M·S PCT can be an invaluable marker to help assess presence or absence of a bacterial infection, and it can be used as an aid in antibiotic therapy for patients with suspected or confirmed LRTI. Mike Broyles, BS Pharm, PharmD, will describe the regulation and kinetics of procalcitonin during infection and review current biomarkers used in the management of bacterial infection. He will also explain the concept of PCT-aided antibiotic stewardship and how using a biomarker with greater specificity to bacterial infections improves clinical and health economic outcomes.


Mike Broyles

Mike Broyles, PharmD, is director of pharmacy and laboratory services at Five Rivers Medical Center in Pocahontas, Arkansas. He received his BSPharm degree in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and his PharmD from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. With more than 25 years of experience as a hospital pharmacy director and laboratory director, Mike enjoys educating patients on current concepts in the clinical use of drugs.
