Medical Packaging Inc (MPI)’s Fluidose Series 5H is an automated, bar coding packaging solution for unit dose oral liquid medication that supports the efficient management of medication to provide enhanced patient care and safety. It can produce up to 22 unit dose packages per minute, depending on the fill rate and viscosity of oral liquid medication. The system utilizes FDA-approved, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) unit dose cups available in a variety of color selections and four standard sizes: 7 mL, 15 mL, 25 mL, and 35 mL.

The Fluidose Series 5H is powered by MPI’s exclusive Pak-EDGE UD Barcode Labeling Software, which can generate and print all linear, 2D, and GS1 bar codes; offers advanced bar coding capabilities; and contains a serialization feature. Touchscreen controls are easily accessible to manage packaging operations, including setting volume limits, sealing temperature, draw/dispense rates, and pump/index dwells. The solution complies with regulations applicable to all classes of trade for dispensing oral liquid medication. Additional options include 2D bar code scanners for scanning bulk medication.

PillPick from Swisslog is a fully integrated pharmacy automation system that delivers ready-to-administer unit dose medications for dispensing in patient-specific rings. Robotic automation picks and packages pills, dispensing them in patented, tagged rings to eliminate errors, improve patient safety, and drive workflow efficiency throughout the complete process. Its design consists of two robots, supporting task redundancy and productivity.

Other system advantages include serialization, as the PillPick system encodes each bag with a unique serial number and associated NDC to make a Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) compliant Product Identifier. The overwrap module automates unit dose packaging and bar coding of bulky containers and non-solids for improved control and traceability. In addition, the system automatically verifies packaging accuracy and stores images of each unit dose with the PickView Vision System.

PillPick is part of an integrated solution that controls and manages medication from wholesaler to patient. Swisslog solutions for medication packaging, storage, and dispensing are inspired by the need for safer medication distribution practices to reduce the risk of dispensing and administering the wrong medication and to create a more efficient pharmacy workflow.
